Wing Vilma, the moniker under which Electronic artist Milicent Coleman has been making music since 2017, is releasing her latest single ‘Drain’ via Detroit label Young Heavy Souls. With soaring melodies and the naturalistic lushness of samples that distinguishes Wing Vilma’s work from her peers, ‘Drain’ evokes a pleasant journey through time and space. Like scaling a mountain and taking in the sights, this track is indubitably a breath of fresh air.

“I wanted to create something dense and layered in a way that feels more typical of my production style while almost entirely synthetic and sourced from sounds available to me on my computer,” she explains. “Instead of writing complex layered synth melodies on my Juno-106, for instance, I decided to see how much range and melodic variation I could extract from the limited musical typing features built into the software I use.”

Imaginative, with sonic clarity and relaxed confidence, this single is an enticing taste of what’s to come on Wing Vilma’s forthcoming release. ‘Drain’ is perfectly suited for fans of Daisuke Tanabe, Shigeto and Aphex Twin and the track represents the continuation of Coleman’s deeply personal, ever-evolving musical practice.
